Cigarette butt recycling for hospitality

Hotels, restaurants, bars, brasseries, terraces: it is one of the only sectors where providing ashtrays on open terraces is regulated by local law in several major European cities. It is also one of the sectors where the look of the hardware really matters — your ashtray is the first thing your guest sees. Here is how Easy to Change adapts its service.

  • Carefully designed hardware, colours matched to your visual identity
  • Seasonal collection, adjustable to your activity
  • Compliance with local terrace ashtray obligations (urban municipalities)
  • An asset for Green Key, Green Globe and EU Ecolabel certifications

The specific stakes

Three issues that shape the service in hospitality

01

Aesthetics on the front line

In hospitality and restaurants, the ashtray is guest-facing furniture, not technical equipment hidden behind the building. It must fit your visual identity, not clash with your terrace décor, and last several outdoor seasons. Our Easy Premium ashtrays come in 4 standard colours (Claret, Moss Green, Ultramarine Blue, Anthracite) with the option of customisation to RAL shades. Logo branding is available for hotel chains and restaurant groups.

02

Terrace ashtray obligations

In several major cities (Paris notably, since the 2015 municipal order reinforced in 2025), holders of an open-terrace authorisation must provide ashtrays for their patrons. The City of Paris regularly reminds operators of this obligation by official letter. It is also a recurring topic in commercial lease contracts. Our service covers this requirement with compliant hardware and a documented waste transfer note for your local cleanliness audits.

03

Environmental certifications

Green Key, Green Globe, EU Ecolabel, Ecocert Tourism: hospitality eco-labels all include a "waste management" section that explicitly covers traceability of marginal flows like cigarette butts. Our quarterly waste transfer note is precisely the type of document expected during a Green Key audit. And our value chain (material recycling in France, social-economy partners, hardware Made in Picardie) adds qualitative points on the labels' socio-environmental criteria.

Typical configurations

Three examples of set-ups deployed in hospitality

Independent restaurant with terrace — 1 to 2 Easy Premium ashtrays on the terrace, colour matched to your visual identity. Adjustable collection by season: monthly rounds in summer, quarterly in winter. Annual waste transfer note documented. Annual budget typically below €50 net per month for small set-ups.

Independent hotel or small group (50 to 150 rooms) — 3 to 6 Easy Premium ashtrays distributed across the main entrance, bar / restaurant terrace, staff break areas and car park access. Monthly collection. Moderate Peasy display on the guest side (your call) and full display on the staff side. Quarterly waste transfer note that can be leveraged in a Green Key application.

Hotel chain or multi-site restaurant group — Phased roll-out, group framework contract, colours customised to the chain's palette, optional logo branding, centralised billing. Single point of contact on the Easy to Change side. Coordination with your sustainability department to feed the data into the group's CSRD reporting and the label renewal applications.

The operational network

A value chain aligned with your commitments

For restaurants and hospitality, the narrative consistency of the service matters as much as its operational reality. Your guests are watching. Your labels are watching. Your neighbours are watching. A French, traceable value chain is worth far more than a vague promise.

Our value chain rests on MéGO (the first French plant for material recycling of cigarette butts, based in Brittany) and clikeco (national approved logistics operator). In addition, in high-density tourist and urban zones, we mobilise social-economy partners — Lemon Tri in PACA, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine; Ostreya / B&P Environnement in Marseille; the Elise network across nearly 50 French sites — all documented elements you can integrate into your on-site communication and your labelling applications.
